THE FRAGRANCE

The Scent

The Berlin Affair is a cool aromatic citrus aquatic built around crisp bergamot, lime and grapefruit, sharpened by bitter absinthe. Juniper, violet, sage and aquatic accords give the heart a rain-washed, mineral quality before vetiver, patchouli, white musks and ambroxan settle into a clean, dry finish. Fresh at first, but darker and more composed than a conventional aquatic fragrance.

THE STORY

A Secret Written in Rain

Every perfume in the City Archives begins with a place, but GAIA treats cities as memories rather than postcards. The Berlin Affair looks toward the quieter side of Berlin: rain on old stone, low-lit rooms, late trains and conversations that never quite become explanations.

Its name suggests something private. An affair can be romantic, but it can also be an obsession, a period of your life or a moment you keep returning to.

The fragrance follows that tension. Bright citrus and absinthe open the composition before juniper, violet and cool aquatic notes move through the heart. Vetiver, patchouli, white musk and ambroxan remain as the city recedes.

Berlin is never reproduced literally. It remains somewhere between place and memory.

ON SKIN

How It Develops

01Opening

The first minutes are bright and brisk. Bergamot, lime and grapefruit arrive clearly, but absinthe introduces a dry bitterness almost immediately, keeping the citrus from becoming cheerful or conventional.

02Heart

As the opening settles, juniper and sage become more noticeable. Violet softens the aromatic edge while the aquatic accord gives the impression of damp air and wet stone rather than a blue marine effect.

03Drydown

Vetiver and patchouli make the fragrance drier and more grounded. White musks and ambroxan smooth the base, leaving a clean, cool warmth that sits closer to the skin as the composition settles.
